Here is today's Health & Wellness for Friday August 14th. Yesterday, Andrew Weil weighed in on the continuing seed-oil debate, arguing that the issue is not an occasional serving being “toxic,” but the modern diet’s heavy reliance on refined oils high in omega-6 fats. That framing is more useful than social-media absolutes. Nutrition evidence rarely supports treating one ingredient as either miracle or poison. A practical approach is to emphasize minimally processed foods and a varied mix of fats, including nuts, seeds, fish, and olive oil, while limiting foods that are heavily fried or ultra-processed. [1]
Weil also warned yesterday about counterfeit or low-quality matcha. Authentic matcha is finely ground green-tea powder, but products marketed under that name may vary substantially in quality and ingredients. Matcha can be an enjoyable source of caffeine and plant compounds, but it is not a cure-all. Check ingredient lists for unnecessary sweeteners or fillers, buy from transparent sellers, and remember that caffeine can worsen anxiety, reflux, or sleep when used late in the day. [2]
In drug-safety news, Andrew Huberman drew attention yesterday to reporting on Eli Lilly’s legal action involving alleged black-market sales of retatrutide, an investigational obesity medicine. The larger warning is important: drugs that are not approved or are obtained outside licensed pharmacies may be counterfeit, contaminated, improperly dosed, or entirely different from what their labels claim. Interest in next-generation weight-loss medications is creating a market that moves faster than regulation. If medication is part of your weight-management plan, use a clinician and a licensed pharmacy rather than online sellers or social-media referrals.
Finally, Bryan Johnson highlighted mouse research into how the brain clears waste through tiny structures behind the nose, which appeared to narrow with age. It is interesting early science, but it has not established a treatment or proven the same process in people. The trend across today’s stories is clear: compelling health claims travel fast, while certainty moves slowly. Favor reliable sourcing, realistic expectations, and evidence over hype. Thank you for listening to Health & Wellness from The Daily FM. See you tomorrow! [3]

Are seed oils toxic? It’s not quite that simple. I’ve long recommended limiting oils high in omega-6 fatty acids, particularly the refined seed oils. The issue is not that an occasional serving is “toxic,” but that our modern diet provides far too much omega-6 and too little https://t.co/M8PbC98xxd Posted: 2026-08-13T23:00:07.000Z Tweet: https://x.com/drweil/status/2088037917155275130 Links: https://x.com/DrWeil/status/2088037917155275130/video/1 Not all matcha is created equal! 🍵 Learn how to spot the real deal and why it matters for your health. #Nutrition #Matcha https://t.co/eWWjMWSL2P Posted: 2026-08-13T17:20:14.000Z Tweet: https://x.com/drweil/status/2087952379580715097 Links: https://www.drweil.com/diet-nutrition/food-safety/beware...
