Here is today's Startup Briefing for Friday August 14th. This morning, Chamath Palihapitiya highlighted a potential next phase in enterprise AI: as foundation-model costs converge, the strategic layer may shift to independent control planes, or “harnesses,” that let companies use multiple models interchangeably. He pointed to 8090, Palantir, and Nous’ Hermes as examples. This is an investor’s view, but the implication is meaningful for founders. The durable advantage may not be owning a model; it may be owning the workflow, permissions, evaluation systems, and integrations that determine which model handles which task—and whether the output can be trusted. [1]
A concrete illustration of that agent future came yesterday from Jason Calacanis. He described using Athena, an AI assistant, to place his family’s weekly order from Austin bakery Abby Jane, then arrange an Uber Courier pickup. It is a small consumer use case, but it captures an important shift: useful agents do not just answer questions. They cross systems, complete a task, and handle the messy coordination between a local merchant, a customer preference, and a delivery service. The startup opportunity is in reliable execution, especially where existing services do not integrate smoothly. [2]
Also yesterday, Greg Isenberg shared a deliberately simple prompt—“do smart things”—used by an AI-workforce operator managing 34 agents. The phrase is less important than the operating model behind it: agents need persistent context, clear access boundaries, and enough judgment to identify valuable work rather than waiting for narrowly scripted commands. [3]
Finally, the All-In Podcast released an interview yesterday with former ambassador Rahm Emanuel covering China, Taiwan, immigration, education, and Europe. For startups in defense, robotics, chips, and industrial technology, geopolitical risk is no longer peripheral context. It can shape supply chains, customer demand, regulatory scrutiny, and even which technologies are acceptable to deploy. [4]
The emerging pattern is that AI is moving beyond the model interface. Value is accruing to orchestration: software that coordinates tools, spends money safely, applies company context, and produces accountable real-world outcomes. Thank you for listening to Startup Briefing from The Daily FM. See you tomorrow! [5]

This is a really good development. As model costs converge, the next likely step will be the use of independent 3rd party harnesses/control planes (8090 Software Factory, Palantir, Nous’ Hermes etc).
